about

Science tells us: "All things in our universe are constantly in motion, vibrating. Even objects that appear to be stationary are in fact vibrating, oscillating, resonating, at various frequencies. Resonance is a type of motion, characterised by oscillation between two states. And ultimately all matter is just vibration of various underlying fields. An interesting phenomenon occurs when different vibrating things/processes come into proximity with one another: they will often start, after a little time, to vibrate together at the same frequency. They 'sync-up', sometimes in ways that can seem mysterious. This is described today as the phenomenon of spontaneous self-organisation. Examining this phenomenon leads to potentially deep insights about the nature of consciousness and about the universe more generally. All things resonate at certain frequencies. It’s all about vibrations."
Performed with touché and intuition, recorded using a special microphone technique capturing every last vibration from metal instruments and objects, Michael Baird plays a family of sounds from a champagne cooler to a tiny bell from India. So yes, this is metal music, not ‘Heavy Metal’ but more like ‘Light Metal’! Different categories can be applied to this album - yes it is 'contemporary', yes it is 'avantgarde', yes it is 'experimental', yes it is 'world music', yes it is 'ambient', yes it is 'new age'! Let your ears decide what is going on.....
It certainly is not fast music, and when you slow down your pace of life, introspection tends to increase – generally a good thing. Tibet is never far away here, and the lamellophone family of instruments (African ‘thumb-pianos’) is heard in a brand new way. This is meditative music, but the 9 tracks also form a suite that tells a story. Let yourself become enveloped…..

about

Michael Baird Utrecht, Netherlands

This is drummer/composer Michael Baird's page. Born in Lusaka, Zambia. (Not the LA session drummer and member of pop group Journey - he has a red beard and is known as Mike Baird!). Michael is known for his own style called 'Voodoo-Jazz', combining jazz with Africa, but there is also some other stuff - all original, pleasantly irksome, nicely weird. Check it out! All released by SWP Records. ... more
