about

Played on a cardboard box in the back of a car. Budima is a riotous music, originally for funerals, of the Batonga people from the Zambezi Valley living on both sides of Lake Kariba, performed by anything from between thirty and well over a hundred people.
(You can hear Budima music on SWP 005 'Across The Waters' tracks 10 & 18).

about

Michael Baird Utrecht, Netherlands

This is drummer/composer Michael Baird's page. Born in Lusaka, Zambia. (Not the LA session drummer and member of pop group Journey - he has a red beard and is known as Mike Baird!). Michael is known for his own style called 'Voodoo-Jazz', combining jazz with Africa, but there is also some other stuff - all original, pleasantly irksome, nicely weird. Check it out! All released by SWP Records. ... more
